See the Sites in the Windy City
From Millennium Park to the Magnificent Mile, the Windy City boasts plenty of fun for visitors of all ages. Whether you’re traveling to Chicago on a business trip or for a relaxing vacation, take time to enjoy some of the city’s many world-famous sights.
The Magnificent Mile is a busy district right in the heart of the city. Here, you’ll find plenty of high-end shops and hotels. Visiting this area is an especially popular activity at Christmastime.
As its name implies, Millennium Park is a large park that’s enjoyed by both residents and visitors. In the summer, you can catch a free concert here or play in Crown Fountain. At any time of year, be sure to take your picture by the Bean. Officially named Cloud Gate, this silver sculpture makes a great backdrop for photos of your traveling party.
Once known as the Sears Tower, Willis Tower stands 1,450 feet tall. In the entire Western Hemisphere, there’s only one building that’s taller than it. There’s a public viewing area near the top of the tower. You can even step out onto the Skydeck, a glass box that juts out from the 103rd floor.
People of all ages will have a great time at Chicago’s Navy Pier. You’ll find plenty of shopping and dining, and this is also home to the Chicago Children’s Museum. You can hop on a lake cruise or ride the Centennial Wheel. During the summer, there are free fireworks a few nights each week.
At the Museum of Science and Industry, you’ll enjoy hands-on exploration and learning. There are permanent exhibits dedicated to coal mining, the human body, transportation and more. A rotating lineup of special exhibits changes regularly.
Who can resist visiting the animals at Lincoln Park Zoo, especially since admission is free. Lions, monkeys and polar bears are just a few of the many creatures you’ll find as you stroll through the zoo. In the winter, be sure to check out the ZooLights holiday extravaganza.
Chicago is home to a number of well-known sports teams. Plan a visit to the United Center, which is where both the Chicago Bulls basketball team and the Chicago Blackhawks hockey team play. The arena also hosts tournaments, concerts and shows throughout the year.
Chicago baseball fans are known for their divided loyalties. While many residents are die-hard Cubs fans, others root for the White Sox. If you haven’t yet selected a favorite, consider watching both teams play while you’re in town.
Whatever activities you decide to try during your time in Chicago, be sure to select a hotel that’s conveniently located for your travels. If you’ll be arriving by plane, a hotel near the airport, such as the Hyatt Regency O’Hare Chicago, is a smart move.
Those coming by car or wanting to stay right in the heart of city life might prefer a location closer to downtown. The Loop and the Magnificent Mile are two areas to consider.
There’s enough to do in Chicago to last you a week or more. Even if you have only a few days, be sure to take in some of the city’s best-known sights, and don’t miss the opportunity to taste a Chicago-style hot dog!
